CGC Adeniyi Calls for Enhanced Synergy Among Security Agencies to Bolster Anti-Smuggling Efforts
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has emphasised the need for robust collaboration among security agencies to combat smuggling and its adverse effects on Nigeria’s economy.
Speaking at the National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja during a lecture for participants of Course 33, Adeniyi underscored the critical role of synergy and mutual understanding in tackling the intricate challenges posed by smuggling.
Delivering his address at the NDC Auditorium, Adeniyi stated, “No single agency can effectively combat the complexities of smuggling without the support and cooperation of others. Collaborating with other security agencies is essential for effective anti-smuggling operations.
“It is only through synergy that we can reduce these illegal activities to the barest minimum and foster economic growth in Nigeria.”
The lecture, held on Thursday, 23 January 2025, focused on strategies for addressing illicit trade and protecting Nigeria’s economic interests.
Adeniyi pointed out that smuggling not only undermines legitimate trade but also poses significant risks to national security and development.
As Nigeria’s premier institution for military and strategic studies, the National Defence College provides a platform for fostering cross-sector dialogue among participants from the armed forces, paramilitary organisations, and civil service.
Adeniyi’s presentation resonated with this objective, offering insights into the necessity of inter-agency cooperation to enhance national security and economic resilience.
The event was well-attended by senior officers, faculty members, and participants from diverse sectors.
Many described the lecture as an enlightening discourse that shed light on the complexities of smuggling and the vital importance of collective action in addressing the issue.
With the growing sophistication of smuggling networks, Adeniyi’s call for a unified approach among security agencies highlights the urgency of strengthening collaborative efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s economic future.
