The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) dedication to advancing education by committing to increased investment in the Service’s schools nationwide.

Adeniyi made this pledge during his address as Chairman of the official launch of Business Geek: Innovative Incubator From Concept to Reality, a book authored by Asma’u Isah Maibasirah, the wife of a high-ranking NCS officer, at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja on Thursday, 26 September 2024.

During his remarks, CGC Adeniyi emphasised that providing quality education is crucial to the nation’s development, underscoring the NCS’s ongoing efforts to build and renovate primary and secondary schools across Nigeria.

He noted the importance of ensuring that every child, irrespective of background, has access to excellent educational opportunities. “Education remains a top priority for the Nigeria Customs Service,” he stated, adding that the NCS will continue to channel resources towards addressing this vital issue.

Adeniyi further highlighted the relevance of the newly launched book, which offers insights into entrepreneurship and innovation, both critical tools in tackling the country’s growing unemployment challenges.

Speaking on the book’s significance, he remarked, “There must be something in this book that we must pay serious attention to.”

He continued, “This is a timely intervention, as the unemployment rate in the country, especially among the youth, is concerning. I believe this is the time we must all grab this book.”

The book, Business Geek, aims to cultivate a culture of creativity and entrepreneurship among Nigerians, particularly the youth, by providing practical guidance on transforming innovative ideas into sustainable businesses.

CGC Adeniyi praised the author for her initiative, noting that the book aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to empower small-scale enterprises as part of the broader strategy to revitalise the Nigerian economy.

In a show of support, Adeniyi pledged that the NCS would collaborate with the author to ensure the book reaches a wide audience. “We are committed to supporting the author in providing adequate printed copies whenever the need arises,” he assured.

The event also featured a book review by Professor Muhammad Aliyu Paiko, Vice-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, Niger State.

Professor Paiko lauded the publication as an insightful and well-researched resource for both academic and professional audiences.

He commended the author for presenting her ideas in a manner that resonates with intellectuals and entrepreneurs alike.

Dr Asma’u Isah Maibasirah, the author of Business Geek, expressed her deep gratitude to Mrs Kikelomo Adewale Adeniyi, who represented the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the event.

Dr Maibasirah thanked the First Lady for her unwavering support in ensuring the book’s successful launch.

She also extended her appreciation to CGC Adeniyi and his team for their significant contributions, which she said played a vital role in bringing the book to fruition.

Additionally, Dr Maibasirah acknowledged Senator Abdulaziz Yari, the former Governor of Zamfara State, who served as the Chief Launcher, and other distinguished guests for their presence and support.

She explained that her book contributes to the ongoing discourse on entrepreneurship and underscores the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in driving economic growth.

The event attracted participants from various sectors and served as a platform for discussing strategies to enhance entrepreneurial skills and harness innovative solutions for national development.
