Comptroller Dera Nnadi Receives Dual Awards of Excellence at CGC Awards Night
The Area Controller of the Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Dera Nnadi, was recognised for his outstanding contributions at the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Awards Night held on Friday, 29 November 2024, in Abuja.
He received an Award for Distinctive Performance and an Award of Excellence for Workplace Transformation in a ceremony that celebrated leadership and innovation within the service.
The accolades, presented by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, highlighted Comptroller Nnadi’s exemplary leadership, commitment to excellence, and transformative achievements at the Tincan Island Port.
The awards citations read: “Winner: CGC’s Special Award for Workplace Transformation” and “In Recognition of Your Distinctive Performance and Commitment to the Ideals and Vision of the Nigeria Customs Service.”
Under Comptroller Nnadi’s stewardship, the Tincan Island Port Command achieved a record revenue generation of N1.2 trillion by November 2024, marking a significant contribution to national development.
Additionally, his administration successfully remodelled the command’s administrative building, which had stood for over 40 years, giving it a modernised and functional facelift.
Speaking at the ceremony, Comptroller Nnadi dedicated the awards to the officers and men of the command, attributing the success to their teamwork, commitment, and dedication.
“These achievements are not mine alone. They are the result of the collective effort, focus, and hard work of every officer at the Tincan Island Port Command,” he said.
He expressed profound gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs for his unwavering support and encouragement.
Comptroller Nnadi also urged all stakeholders to maintain their collaborative efforts, emphasising that the awards serve as both recognition and a challenge to sustain and enhance the command’s performance.
In his remarks, Comptroller Nnadi encouraged business operators at the Tincan Island Port to leverage the Trade Modernisation Project initiatives championed by the CGC.
These initiatives, he noted, include the adoption of technology, trade facilitation measures, and the implementation of paperless port procedures to improve efficiency.
He also called on officers of the command to view the awards as a source of motivation. “These awards are a reminder of the standards we must uphold and a challenge to strive for even greater achievements,” he said.
The Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, commended Comptroller Nnadi for his transformative leadership and reiterated the service’s commitment to supporting innovative approaches that enhance trade facilitation and revenue generation.
The CGC Awards Night was a celebration of excellence within the NCS, recognising individuals and commands that exemplify dedication, innovation, and progress in their respective duties.
