Customs, CDCFIB Strengthen Strategic Partnership to Bolster National Security

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening operational synergy and shared facilities as part of efforts to strengthen national security.

This assurance came on Thursday, 21 August 2025, when the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, received the leadership of CDCFIB at the Customs Headquarters in Abuja.

CGC Adeniyi, while welcoming the delegation, stressed that cooperation between the NCS and the four services under CDCFIB remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s collective security architecture. He noted that the Customs Service has, over the years, extended the use of its facilities to sister agencies as a demonstration of the enduring partnership.

“In Ibadan, we have a five-storey building where two floors are dedicated to Immigration and a Correctional Service detachment,” Adeniyi said. “In Kano, our facilities support Immigration recruitment exercises, while in Bauchi, a wing is set aside for our colleagues. These prove that, despite structural changes, our bond remains strong. We work together and will continue to do so.”

He explained that these arrangements reflect the Service’s belief in inter-agency cooperation and resource sharing, which enhance efficiency and foster trust.

Earlier, the Secretary of the CDCFIB, Major General AbdulMalik Jibril (rtd), congratulated Adeniyi on the extension of his tenure, commending his leadership and contributions to both Nigeria’s economic development and national security.

“As Secretary to the Board of these four services, I consider it necessary to rekindle our relationship and strengthen synergy. Whenever the need arises, we must be able to approach one another. This visit seeks to consolidate our partnership and reinforce cooperation for national security,” Jibril stated.

He further explained that the visit was intended to explore deeper collaboration in areas such as training, recruitment, and operational support, which align with the federal government’s whole-of-society approach to security management.

The meeting, both leaders agreed, signals a renewed resolve to work in unison towards safeguarding Nigeria’s borders, communities, and critical national infrastructure.
