Customs, NIPR Forge Strategic Alliance to Promote Excellence in Public Relations

In a bid to entrench professionalism and ethical standards within the sphere of public communication, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing public relations (PR) practice across the public sector.
This development followed a courtesy visit by the National Public Relations Officer (NPRO) of the NCS, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, to the NIPR FCT Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, 16 May 2025.
Assistant Comptroller Maiwada, who led a team of officers from the Customs Public Relations Unit, noted that the visit was intended to strengthen institutional synergy, deepen knowledge exchange, and promote adherence to global best practices in PR.
“We believe that excellence and professionalism should be the hallmark of our practice of Public Relations in the Nigeria Customs Service and beyond,” Maiwada remarked.
He further stated that the PR Unit under his stewardship is propelled by youthful energy, unwavering dedication, and the consistent support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi.
In his welcome remarks, Chairman of the NIPR FCT Chapter, Mr Stanley Ogadigo, lauded the NCS for its sustained efforts in improving communication strategies, especially under the current leadership.
“We’re glad that the Comptroller-General of Customs has not disappointed us. He’s doing a great job and remains a shining example,” Ogadigo said.
He assured the delegation of NIPR’s full cooperation in supporting initiatives geared towards elevating the standards of public relations in the public sector.
Ogadigo revealed that the Institute is open to collaborating on capacity building, corporate social responsibility projects, and coordinated advocacy to improve transparency and trust in public institutions.
Key discussions during the meeting revolved around the design of joint training programmes, professional development schemes, and the need to recalibrate communication strategies in light of the fast-evolving media landscape.
Both organisations reaffirmed their shared commitment to continuous learning, ethical conduct, and the deployment of strategic communication tools to boost the credibility and public perception of government agencies.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both the NCS and the NIPR FCT Chapter expressing determination to pursue sustainable and mutually beneficial initiatives that would advance public sector communication practices across Nigeria.
