EndBadGovernance: Kano Governor Declares 24-Hour Curfew Following Violent Protests
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has declared a 24-hour curfew in response to escalating violence and disruptions amid nationwide protests against economic hardship.
This decision was announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, on Thursday.
Following an Emergency State Security Council meeting, the governor took this measure to address the violence that has erupted during civil demonstrations.
Tofa explained that the curfew is necessary to protect lives and safeguard public and private property.
“The imposition of this curfew is a necessary measure to restore order and ensure the safety of our communities. It is paramount that we protect our citizens from further harm and preserve the sanctity of our state’s institutions and businesses,” Tofa stated.
Governor Yusuf urged citizens to remain vigilant and united during this difficult period, emphasizing the importance of community solidarity.
“Let us not allow the actions of a few selfish individuals to divide us. Together, we can navigate these challenges and fortify our resolve to build a stronger, more resilient Kano State,” he said.
The governor’s statement also highlighted that all security agencies in the state have been directed to ensure full compliance with the curfew.
Citizens are urged to adhere to this directive for their safety and the well-being of the community.
The imposition of the curfew follows reports of hoodlums looting the newly built Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) Industrial Park in Kano State.
Videos and photos circulating online show the building being set on fire, with valuable equipment such as computers, furniture, and electronics being stolen.
