Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Customs Command Achieves Record Revenue Collection in 2024, Sets Ambitious Goals for 2025

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Command has announced an extraordinary revenue collection milestone, recording an impressive N50.8 billion in 2024.

This figure, a 50% increase from the N27.9 billion collected in 2023, marks the highest revenue ever achieved since the inception of the command.

In a statement released by Comptroller Comfort Ukpanah, the Customs Area Controller, the achievement was attributed to the deliberate alignment with the Comptroller General’s policy guidelines of Consultation, Innovation, and Consolidation.

The command implemented an inclusive operational methodology, fostering collaboration and trust with stakeholders while ensuring strict adherence to trade regulations.

The command developed a robust compliance monitoring template, applied across all operational activities, including excise factories and parcel post functions.

Enhanced intelligence-sharing initiatives enabled the identification of previously unmonitored excise factories, ensuring comprehensive duty collection.

Additionally, the command maintained round-the-clock surveillance on factory activities to prevent revenue leakages.

Recognising the risks posed by parcel post operations, a rejigged strategy ensured proper oversight and duty payment in this area as well.

Despite challenges posed by the global economic downturn, the commitment and resilience of officers and men of the command played a pivotal role in plugging revenue gaps and meeting targets.

Comptroller Ukpanah emphasised the command’s pivotal role in achieving the Nigeria Customs Service’s overall revenue targets.

“With President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR’s 2025 budget projection of N49.74 trillion, the command is repositioning itself with fresh operational strategies to ensure it meets and even surpasses future revenue expectations,” she stated confidently.

In 2024, the command prioritised strengthening its relationships with other security and regulatory agencies, as well as traditional institutions.

Collaboration and intelligence-sharing were critical factors in the command’s achievements.

One notable event was the visit of Mrs Kikelomo Adewale Adeniyi, National Chairperson of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA).

She commissioned several completed projects, including an ultra-modern clinic that serves both Customs officers and surrounding communities.

Comptroller Ukpanah expressed profound gratitude to Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for his unwavering support and guidance, which empowered the command to fulfil its mandate.

She also lauded the compliant traders and operators for their cooperation, urging non-compliant entities to adhere strictly to trade guidelines or face the full weight of the law.

The Comptroller further appreciated the role of media partners in promoting the activities of the Customs Service, highlighting their professionalism and reliability in advancing national development.

As the command enters 2025, Comptroller Ukpanah reaffirmed its commitment to surpassing revenue targets and consolidating on its achievements.

She commended the dedication of her officers and men, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver even greater results in the new year.

“All hands must be on deck to achieve our collective goals for 2025,” she concluded.

The Command has indeed set a high benchmark for revenue collection and operational excellence, positioning itself as a cornerstone of the Nigeria Customs Service’s success.
