Equip Yourselves with Knowledge to Safeguard Our Borders, CGC Adeniyi Urges Customs Trainees
The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has charged newly inducted students of Junior Course 20 to make the most of their training and contribute meaningfully to the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) mission of safeguarding national borders and protecting the country’s economy.
Speaking at the Ahmad Makarfi Theatre, Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC) in Gwagwalada, the CGC, represented by Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, Sulaiman Bomai, underscored the importance of the training programme.
He called on the students to absorb the knowledge and skills they would be imparted with to further the NCS’s objectives.
“This ceremony marks a significant tradition in the history of our esteemed institution and reinforces the core values of dedication, discipline, and continuous development that have long been the pillars of the Nigeria Customs Service,” DCG Bomai stated, highlighting the college’s longstanding commitment to nurturing excellence within the Service.
Emphasising the NCS’s commitment to skill enhancement, he revealed that comprehensive plans were underway to improve staff capabilities through various initiatives.
He urged the new students to seize the opportunity for growth, stating that the training would be pivotal in shaping their future roles within the Service.
“You are the future of the Nigeria Customs Service,” Bomai continued. “The knowledge you gain here will empower you to carry the torch forward. Seize this moment, make the most of this experience, and rise to the challenges ahead.”
CGC Adeniyi, through his remarks, encouraged the trainees to make a positive impact and aspire to emulate their facilitators, who serve as role models.
He also urged the instructors to be attentive and supportive, ensuring the students received proper guidance during their studies and in addressing welfare concerns.
“Acquire the knowledge to propel the Service forward,” CGC Adeniyi remarked, reiterating the transformative potential the training holds for the students’ future contributions to the NCS.
In his address, DCG Bomai assured that the CGC was fully committed to supporting officers who seek to enhance their capacities, expressing confidence that the participants would emerge as drivers of positive transformation within the Service.
Assistant Comptroller-General Kingsley Egwuh, Commandant of the NCCSC, also spoke at the event, describing the course as a critical enabler for career progression within the Customs Service.
He encouraged the participants to improve their competence in key areas such as revenue generation, trade facilitation, and national security.
“The course is designed to develop your command, leadership, and communication skills, which are essential for addressing the challenges confronting modern Customs operations,” Egwuh said, adding that the training prepares officers for increasing responsibilities in command and staff roles.
The Commandant further advised the students to maintain high standards of conduct and compliance with rules and regulations, warning that any breach would result in severe sanctions.
The event also marked a significant milestone for DCG Suleiman Bomai, as it was his final official engagement after 35 years of distinguished service to the Nigeria Customs Service.
