Ethiopian Airlines CEO, Mesfin Tasew, Clinches Prestigious Award for Advancing Africa’s Transport Connectivity
Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mesfin Tasew, has been honoured with the prestigious “Leadership in Connecting Africa through Transport Award” at the Africa Prosperity Champions Awards.
The accolade was presented during the Presidential Gala Dinner held on 1 February 2025 at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra, Ghana, as part of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025.
Mr Tasew, expressing his gratitude for the recognition, dedicated the award to both the current and past visionary leaders of Ethiopian Airlines, as well as the airline’s dedicated workforce. He stated:
“I am deeply honoured to receive this award on behalf of the current and previous visionary leaders of Ethiopian Airlines. It is also a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Ethiopian Airlines team.
“Our mission has always been to connect Africa and facilitate economic growth through seamless air transport. This award motivates us to continue our efforts in enhancing connectivity and supporting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).”
The “Leadership in Connecting Africa through Transport Award” recognises individuals and organisations that have made significant contributions to improving transport infrastructure and connectivity across Africa.
Ethiopian Airlines has demonstrated outstanding leadership in this regard, expanding its network to over 65 destinations within the continent, modernising its fleet, and investing in state-of-the-art cargo facilities.
The airline said it remains steadfast in its mission to connect Africa to the world, foster economic integration, and bolster the development of the continent’s aviation industry.
Through its strategic expansion, Ethiopian Airlines has played a pivotal role in facilitating trade, tourism, and business opportunities across Africa, positioning itself as a vital driver of economic growth.
The recognition comes as the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2025 focuses on the theme: “Delivering Africa’s Single Market Through Infrastructure: Invest, Connect, and Integrate.” Ethiopian Airlines’ achievements exemplify how transport infrastructure can serve as a foundation for the continent’s economic integration and progress.
