The airline, which stands as the largest in Africa, has played a pivotal role in connecting over 60 African cities to its expansive global network, fostering trade and tourism across the continent.
The newly appointed Area Manager of Ethiopian Airlines in Nigeria, Mrs Firiehiwot Mekonnen, revealed the airline’s plans to intensify efforts aimed at promoting tourism both into and out of Nigeria.
“Ethiopian Airlines is a connector of African trade and tourism. We are committed to driving more tourism into Nigeria from around the world and also encouraging Nigerians to explore Ethiopia and other parts of Africa,” she stated.
Ethiopian Airlines has been a consistent supporter of Nigeria’s major cultural showcases, including the vibrant Carnival Calabar, where it has offered discounted fares and smooth travel arrangements to facilitate participation.
Looking ahead, Mrs Firiehiwot assured that the airline would continue to support key seasonal events, adding, “We’ll also ensure that ‘Detty December’ is even more accessible for Nigerians.”
She further underlined Nigeria’s vast yet underexplored tourism potential, pointing to the country’s rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and diverse attractions that warrant greater international visibility.
With Nigerians renowned for their passion for travel, many have long benefitted from Ethiopian Airlines’ reliable service and far-reaching flight options.

Mrs Firiehiwot brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having recently led ET Holidays, where she oversaw all travel and tour packages under the Ethiopian Airlines brand.
Her illustrious career includes key leadership positions in Europe and Nigeria, where she previously served as General Manager in Lagos and as Traffic Sales Manager at the Abuja station.
