Ethiopian Airlines Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Wako Gutu Airport Terminal in Bale Robe

Ethiopian Airlines Group, Africa’s largest and fastest-growing airline network, has inaugurated the newly constructed Wako Gutu Airport Terminal at Bale Robe.

The ceremony was graced by H.E. Shimelis Abdisa, President of the Oromia Regional State, along with senior government officials, members of Ethiopian Airlines’ executive management, and other dignitaries.

The modern terminal is a strategic investment aimed at strengthening socio-economic and cultural ties within Ethiopia and beyond, while offering seamless domestic air transport services.

Speaking at the event, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, expressed pride in the project, saying, “We are delighted to announce the completion of this terminal project, which brings an enhanced travel experience to our passengers flying to and from this destination.

“Our commitment to improving the airport experience across our domestic network drives us to invest in upgrades and renovations like this. We take great pride in delivering this state-of-the-art facility and look forward to offering our passengers an elevated level of comfort and convenience.”

Bale Robe is a gateway to some of Ethiopia’s most renowned tourist attractions, including the Sof Omar Cave, one of the largest underground caverns globally, and the Bale Mountains National Park, a biodiversity hotspot.

Ethiopian Airlines’ operations in Bale Robe are pivotal in boosting tourism by improving accessibility to these iconic sites and positioning the region as a premier destination for travellers.

Currently, Ethiopian Airlines operates up to 14 weekly flights to and from Robe Wako Gutu Airport, showcasing its dedication to enhancing regional connectivity.

The airline serves over 22 domestic destinations, reflecting its commitment to transforming Ethiopia’s aviation landscape.

The inauguration of the Wako Gutu Airport Terminal is part of Ethiopian Airlines’ broader efforts to modernise its domestic aviation infrastructure.

Recent milestones include the opening of terminals at Gode Ugaas Miraad and Jinka Airports, upgrades to the Domestic Terminal at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, the resumption of flights to Dembi Dollo and Axum Airports, and the launch of new routes to Nekemite.

Since assuming control of the Ethiopian Airports Enterprise as a Strategic Business Unit in 2017, Ethiopian Airlines Group has been at the forefront of airport development and modernisation across the country.

These efforts underscore its unwavering commitment to enhancing travel experiences, fostering economic growth, and promoting Ethiopia’s tourism potential.
