Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services, in collaboration with Liege Airport, marked the 17th anniversary of their strategic partnership.

The celebration underscored the alliance’s significant role in connecting Europe with Africa and beyond, as both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing freighter operations.

Over the past 17 years, Ethiopian Cargo has been pivotal in establishing Liege Airport as a premier cargo hub in Europe.

In 2023 alone, Ethiopian Cargo transported approximately 160,000 tons of goods from Liege, ensuring efficient and reliable transit between Europe, Africa, and other global destinations.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, emphasised the importance of this partnership in Ethiopian Cargo’s ascent as a global leader in air cargo.

“This partnership has been instrumental in Ethiopian Cargo’s success as one of the global leaders in the air cargo industry. Liege Airport provides us with a strategic location and world-class infrastructure, enabling us to offer our customers seamless and efficient cargo solutions.

“We are grateful to the management of Liege airport and our stakeholders for the unwavering support we have been receiving for the 17 years,” said Tasew.

Laurent Jossart, CEO of Liege Airport, echoed this sentiment, expressing his delight with the long-term collaboration.

“We are delighted with our long-term partnership with Ethiopian Cargo. Ethiopian is a magnificent success story and continues to grow here. The company links different continents (Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, Middle East) with a fleet of state-of-the-art aircraft.

“Their Boeing 777s have an average age of 7 years and are among the most efficient aircraft in terms of noise and environmental performance. We are honored by Ethiopian’s confidence in Liege Airport, and we will always be at their side to help them in their development,” Jossart stated.

The partnership has been mutually beneficial, driving growth and development for both entities, as Ethiopian Cargo’s vast network and operational prowess, combined with Liege Airport’s modern infrastructure, have fostered a highly effective cargo hub.

Ethiopian Cargo operates about six freighter flights daily to Liege from Addis Ababa and other origins using B777-200F and B767-300F aircraft.

Ethiopian Cargo’s network spans over 135 international destinations, covering Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

The company continues to expand, recently adding Hyderabad and Ahmedabad in India to its network, bringing the total number of dedicated freighter destinations to 70 as of May 2024.

Looking ahead, Ethiopian Cargo said it aims to operate 90 dedicated freighter destinations by 2035, supported by a fleet of 37 freighters, solidifying its status as a global leader in air cargo.

This milestone highlights the enduring strength and success of the Ethiopian Cargo and Liege Airport partnership, paving the way for future growth and collaboration in the global logistics sector.
