FAAN Attains ICAO Trainers Plus Gold Status, Sets New Benchmark for Aviation Training in Nigeria
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has achieved a major milestone in aviation training and capacity development after successfully meeting the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Trainers Plus requirements, earning the prestigious Gold Member status.
The certification, which is valid from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026, places FAAN among a select group of aviation institutions globally recognised for excellence in training standards.
The ICAO Trainers Plus Programme is a globally acclaimed framework designed to ensure that aviation training organisations comply with stringent international benchmarks covering instructor competence, training delivery, and robust quality assurance systems.
FAAN’s attainment of the Gold Member status underscores its sustained commitment to excellence, adherence to global best practices, and continuous professional development of aviation personnel.
The recognition reflects years of deliberate investment in human capital development and institutional capacity building within the Authority.
The achievement has been credited to the strong emphasis on human resource development championed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku.
Under her leadership, FAAN has prioritised structured training, skills enhancement, and professional certification as critical pillars for improving airport operations and service delivery across Nigeria’s airports.
By attaining full compliance with ICAO’s rigorous benchmarks, FAAN has further positioned itself as a leading aviation training institution, not only within Nigeria but across the African continent.
The Gold Member status affirms the Authority’s capability to deliver high-quality training programmes that meet international standards and support the development of a competent aviation workforce.
The recognition is also expected to strengthen FAAN’s role in promoting safe, efficient, and sustainable airport operations, in line with ICAO’s global aviation safety and operational objectives.
Industry stakeholders believe the certification will enhance confidence in Nigeria’s aviation training systems and contribute to broader efforts to align the country’s aviation sector with international best practices.
FAAN noted that the ICAO Trainers Plus Gold certification represents both an endorsement of its current standards and a motivation to sustain continuous improvement in aviation training, capacity development, and operational excellence across all its facilities.
