FAAN launches public awareness campaign on new airport access gate fees

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has initiated a comprehensive public awareness campaign to inform airport users about a new policy requiring the payment of access gate fees at all 24 airports nationwide.

In a statement, the agency said this move follows a directive from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, mandating the implementation of these fees to address revenue leakages.

Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of FAAN, highlighted that the immediate implementation of this mandate is a crucial step toward enhancing the agency’s revenue.

She praised President Bola Tinubu and Minister Keyamo for their proactive roles in supporting technological advancements aimed at increasing revenue, preventing leakages, and curbing the abuse of privileges by VIPs.

“FAAN is currently poised to leverage technology to intensify its revenue drive. The new mandate also provides some protection for FAAN staff, who are often bullied and railroaded by VIPs and military personnel,” Mrs. Kuku stated.

She assured that efforts are underway to mitigate potential traffic congestion at Lagos and Abuja international airports during the initial stages of the policy’s implementation.

The E-tag regime has already been introduced at these major airports to facilitate smoother operations.

Mrs. Kuku emphasised that the policy has received widespread support from government organisations, the military, and VIPs, ensuring robust backing for FAAN’s initiatives.

This campaign, according to the agency, is part of Mrs. Kuku’s broader mission to reposition FAAN through strategic reforms aligned with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s five-point agenda, aimed at modernising airport operations and enhancing service delivery.
