FAAN MD, Mrs Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku has established a dedicated task force to eliminate touting, extortion, and illicit activities at Nigeria’s airports.

This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the airport experience for travellers across the country.

In a recent interview at her office, Mrs. Kuku voiced her deep concern over the persistent harassment and extortion of passengers, reiterating her administration’s commitment to providing a seamless and pleasant travel experience.

To address these issues head-on, FAAN has launched an extensive campaign aimed at eradicating these illegal activities.

To lead this initiative, Mr. Henry Agbebire, the Director of Special Duties at FAAN, has been appointed as the chairman of the newly formed task force.

Under his leadership, the task force is expected to rigorously enforce discipline among airport staff and ensure a high standard of professionalism.

Mrs. Kuku emphasised her intention to personally engage with all government agencies operating at the airports to secure their compliance with the new anti-touting and anti-extortion measures.

She issued a stern warning to all airport personnel, including FAAN staff, stating that strict disciplinary actions would be taken against anyone found engaging in illicit practices.

“The era of business as usual is over,” she declared, highlighting the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct.

In a further bid to streamline the enforcement of these measures, Mrs. Kuku announced plans to establish magistrate courts at international airports.

These courts will expedite the legal process for prosecuting offenders, ensuring swift justice and deterrence.

To enhance transparency and accountability, Mrs Kuku said FAAN will set up dedicated phone lines and QR codes, allowing passengers to provide feedback on their airport experience.

Additionally, all airport personnel will be required to prominently display their on-duty cards and name tags for easy identification.

Mrs. Kuku reiterated FAAN’s unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional service and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all passengers and airport users.

This initiative is a bold step towards transforming Nigeria’s airports into models of efficiency and integrity.
