The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has called on the public, especially motorists and road users around the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to exercise patience as the Authority continues construction on its operational roads.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, made this appeal during an inspection of the ongoing roadwork between the Toll Gate Plaza and Gate 13, popularly referred to as the airport’s Service Road.

Speaking during the inspection, Mrs Kuku expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of the 2.4-kilometre road project.

She urged road users to cooperate fully to ensure timely completion, emphasising that the project, which involves the full reconstruction of the road, installation of proper drainage systems, sidewalks, and streetlights, is essential to improving accessibility and operational efficiency around the airport.

“This road should have been constructed years ago, but I am glad that we have finally commenced the work. I urge all road users and the airport community to support this effort by cooperating with the construction team. Their patience is key to completing the project on schedule and to the required specifications,” Mrs Kuku stated.

The FAAN MD also acknowledged collaboration with the Lagos State Government, lauding Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for partnering with FAAN to facilitate the swift delivery of the project.

“This partnership with Lagos State is a clear example of the type of productive relationships we at FAAN are eager to nurture. It is through such collaborations that we can enhance the experience of our passengers and improve the overall operations of our airports,” Kuku remarked.

She further expressed gratitude to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, for his leadership and oversight.

“His commitment and eye for detail have kept us focused, and we are pleased with the continuous guidance he provides,” Mrs Kuku added.

The road project, which began recently, is expected to be completed within nine months, promising a smoother and more efficient traffic flow for both airport personnel and travellers.

According to FAAN, the reconstructed road will include modern features such as enhanced drainage systems on both sides, pedestrian walkways, and well-lit street lights, contributing to safety and convenience for all users.

In a statement signed by Mrs Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the Authority reiterated its commitment to ensuring minimal disruption during the construction period, assuring the public that the project will be delivered according to its timeline.
