Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has been named the Aviation Agency Chief Executive Officer of the Year 2024 following her outstanding performance since assuming office in December 2023.

Kuku emerged victorious in a keenly contested poll conducted by the Nigeria Aviation (NIGAV) Award organisers, securing 35.3 per cent of the over 3,500 votes cast online.

Her recognition reflects the significant strides she has made in transforming Nigeria’s aviation sector, enhancing airport infrastructure, and introducing innovative processes that have improved the operational efficiency of airline companies.

In a congratulatory message, Fortune Idu, Founder and Chairman of F.C.I International, the organisers of the NIGAV Award, announced that the award will be formally presented to Kuku at the 14th Nigeria Aviation Award and Ministerial Dinner.

The event is scheduled to take place on 11 April 2025 at the NIGAV Centre, located at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

Part of the message read: “We are pleased to inform you that following the conclusion of the public nomination and voting process for the 14th Nigeria Aviation Award, you have been popularly voted as the winner of the NIGAV Award 2024 for AVIATION AGENCY CEO OF THE YEAR.”

The award ceremony will be attended by high-profile dignitaries, including His Excellency Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State; Barr. Festus Keyamo, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace; and Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Highlighting the transparency and inclusiveness of the selection process, Idu noted that voting commenced on 1 February 2025 and attracted over 3,500 online respondents, making it one of the most credible and representative industry recognition programmes in Nigeria.

During the event, the NIGAV Award Chairman will also present the Aviation Year Annual Report, which will detail the sector’s performance and future outlook.

Kuku’s leadership has brought remarkable improvements across Nigeria’s airports, including the modernisation of infrastructure and the streamlining of operational procedures.

These advancements have enhanced passenger experience and eased airline operations, leading to increased industry confidence and the attainment of several industry accolades.

Her recognition as Aviation Agency CEO of the Year underscores her pivotal role in repositioning Nigeria’s aviation landscape and setting a new benchmark for excellence within the sector.
