FAAN, MTN Nigeria Roll Out Free Airport Wi-Fi at Lagos and Abuja International Terminals

In a move aimed at enhancing passenger experience and accelerating digital connectivity within Nigeria’s aviation sector, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in collaboration with MTN Nigeria, has launched complimentary Wi-Fi services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The service was officially unveiled at MMIA Terminal 2 during a ceremony led by FAAN’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Olubunmi Kuku, who was represented by the Director of Airport Operations, Abdullahi Mahmood. Also in attendance was Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer of MTN Nigeria, representing the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola.

The newly introduced internet service is entirely free for passengers and other airport users. According to FAAN officials, the initiative will be expanded to the MMIA temporary terminal and additional international airports nationwide within the next three months, signalling a broader push towards digital modernisation across the country’s aviation gateways.

Speaking at the launch, Mahmood described the development as a landmark achievement for FAAN and a significant benchmark in improving digital infrastructure and passenger comfort at Nigerian airports.

He emphasised that the collaboration demonstrates the effectiveness of Public-Private Partnerships in delivering critical infrastructure, adding that such alliances can play a vital role in strengthening Nigeria’s digital economy.

He further noted that the project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as well as the reform-driven aviation transformation initiatives championed by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

In her remarks, Saint-Nwafor assured users that the Wi-Fi service would be dependable, secure and efficient. She commended FAAN’s leadership for its foresight and cooperation, noting that the successful rollout reflected a shared commitment to innovation and improved passenger services.

Industry observers say the introduction of free high-speed connectivity at key international terminals marks a notable step towards aligning Nigeria’s airport infrastructure with global standards, particularly as airports increasingly serve as digital hubs for travellers, business professionals and logistics operators alike.
