FAAN Suspends Access Gate Fees at Abuja Airport to Alleviate Traffic Congestion
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the suspension of all access gate fees at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The decision, aimed at easing the burden of traffic congestion, follows ongoing road expansion works leading to the airport.
In a statement issued on Saturday, FAAN’s spokesperson, Dr Obiageli Orah, explained that the suspension is part of efforts to address the significant traffic jams caused by a temporary toll collection point established due to the closure of the main toll gate.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public that all access gates at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, are suspended to alleviate the traffic burden on our airport road users.
“We deeply empathise with the inconvenience caused by the ongoing construction and remain committed to ensuring a smooth travel experience for all road users,” the statement read.
The suspension of toll collections commenced on Friday, 24th January 2025, and will remain in effect until Friday, 7th February 2025.
The ongoing road expansion project, which necessitated the closure of the main toll gate, had resulted in severe traffic delays for airport users.
FAAN’s decision to suspend the gate fees is expected to streamline vehicular movement and enhance the overall travel experience for commuters.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to minimising inconvenience during the construction period and assured travellers of its dedication to providing seamless access to the airport terminals.
