The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has ramped up its efforts to combat indiscipline and illicit activities at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

Today – Wednesday, August 7, 2024, the agency’s Task Force Against Indiscipline and Illicit Activities, spearheaded by FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, made a notable impact with a heightened presence at the airport.

Targeting pervasive issues such as touting, rent-seeking, and extortion, the task force, co-chaired by Mr. Henry Agbebire, Director of Special Duties at FAAN, is committed to eradicating these illicit activities.

“Our campaign is designed to provide passengers with an improved experience. Gone are the days of ineffective raids; we now leverage modern technology, including CCTV cameras and body cams, to ensure a sustained and effective approach,” Agbebire stated.

This initiative, according to FAAN, is part of a broader directive from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who aims to elevate service quality at Nigeria’s airports.

Agbebire highlighted that the Managing Director prioritises exceptional customer experience, with the task force playing a crucial role in this mission.

Enhancing passenger engagement, QR codes have been strategically placed throughout the airport, allowing travelers to report any illicit activities directly.

This, coupled with collaboration with various security agencies, aims to foster a safer and more disciplined airport environment.

The task force’s campaign was prominently visible at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, especially in the baggage area of the E-Wing arrival hall, where electronic screens displayed slogans like “SAY NO TO AIRPORT TOUTING,” “SAY NO TO AIRPORT HARASSMENT,” and “SAY NO TO INDISCIPLINE AND ILLICIT PRACTICES.”

Roll-up banners, posters, flyers, and stickers were also strategically placed to reinforce the message.

The task force’s ongoing efforts, supported by modern technology, represent a comprehensive approach to eliminating indiscipline and illicit activities at Nigeria’s airports.

The campaign will continue to intensify until these issues are fully addressed, ensuring a safer and more efficient airport experience for all passengers.
