FAAN Urges Calm, Understanding Ahead of Eid-el-Fitr Rush

As the Eid-el-Fitr celebration approaches, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has appealed to passengers to exercise patience and comply with airport regulations amidst an anticipated surge in flight schedules and passenger traffic.
The authority cautioned against vandalising airport facilities and airline properties due to flight delays, rescheduling, or cancellations.
The Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, made this appeal during an Iftar dinner with the Lagos airport Muslim community.
Speaking through FAAN’s Director of Operations, Captain Abdullahi Mahmood, Kuku emphasised the need for passengers to understand that no airline would deliberately delay or cancel flights without valid reasons.
“We urge passengers to be guided by the law. When you purchase a ticket and encounter challenges at the airport, you should exercise understanding with the airline,” Mahmood stated.
“Acts of aggression such as fighting, destruction of property, and unruly behaviour are unacceptable. I have not seen such behaviour anywhere else in the world. We need to remain patient and respectful,” he added.
Mahmood underscored the importance of passengers recognising both their rights and the rights of the airlines.
“Passengers need to understand their rights, but they must also acknowledge that airlines have rights as well. It is important to respect this balance,” he said.
He further advised passengers to arrive at the airport well ahead of their flight times to avoid unnecessary stress and confusion.
“We are making every effort to ensure that all airports in the country meet the highest standards. Facilities such as runways and terminal infrastructure are being maintained to facilitate smooth operations and enhance passenger experience,” Mahmood added.
Addressing the issue of touting at airports, Captain Mahmood reassured that FAAN remains committed to eradicating the problem. He noted that the agency’s efforts are beginning to yield results, as passengers have observed improvements.
“You can see from the feedback that people are noticing the changes. However, tackling touting is not something that will happen overnight. Like with any fight against corruption, there will be resistance from those benefiting from the status quo,” Mahmood explained.
He stressed FAAN’s resolve to persist in its efforts. “We are prepared for the challenges. We are actively engaging with stakeholders and sensitising the public on the need to eliminate these negative practices,” he affirmed.
FAAN’s call for calm and understanding reflects its commitment to ensuring a seamless and peaceful travel experience during the festive period.
