GreenAfrica Takes Delivery of Second Owned ATR 72-600 to Strengthen Domestic Operations

GreenAfrica, the Lagos-based Nigerian value airline, has announced the acquisition of its second owned aircraft, marking another milestone in its strategy to scale operations and consolidate its presence in the domestic aviation market.

The aircraft, an ATR 72-600 with manufacturer’s serial number 1064 and Nigerian registration 5N-GAC, is expected to be deployed into service shortly, subject to the completion of customary regulatory approvals. Its induction into the fleet is set to increase capacity on GreenAfrica’s existing routes and support more consistent and reliable flight operations across the country.

The fleet expansion was partly financed through a naira-denominated debt facility arranged by Access Bank, one of Africa’s largest financial institutions.

The bank also provided similar funding support for GreenAfrica’s first aircraft acquisition, underscoring a growing partnership aimed at strengthening aviation and economic development in Nigeria.

Reacting to the development, Babawande Afolabi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GreenAfrica, said the arrival of the second owned aircraft represents a critical step in building a resilient airline.

According to him, the addition of 5N-GAC will help the carrier lay a stronger foundation for sustainable growth while enabling it to fulfil its commitment to offering safe, reliable and affordable air travel to a broader customer base within Nigeria and across the African continent.

In his remarks, Roosevelt Ogbonna, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to supporting businesses that drive economic progress.

He noted that Access Bank’s continued collaboration with GreenAfrica reflects its confidence in the airline’s vision and execution, adding that the impressive performance recorded after the first aircraft acquisition informed the decision to support the second.

Ogbonna said the new aircraft would further enhance capacity and accelerate GreenAfrica’s growth trajectory.

GreenAfrica was founded with the mission of harnessing air travel as a catalyst for social and economic development. The airline has built a reputation for affordability and strong on-time performance since commencing operations.

Over the next decade, it plans to deepen connectivity within Nigeria, expand access along the West African seaboard and contribute significantly to economic growth across the continent.

Access Bank, a subsidiary of Access Holdings Plc, operates as a full-service commercial bank across 20 countries on three continents.

With more than 700 branches and a customer base exceeding 70 million, the bank combines robust corporate banking expertise with a strong retail and digital banking presence, providing strategic financial solutions that enable businesses to scale and thrive sustainably.
