The much-anticipated NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition, in collaboration with X-Pression and powered by Kanekalon, the Japanese fibre giant in Enugu fell short of expectations as the event recorded a poor turnout.

The first leg of the competition, held in Nsukka, Enugu State, was significantly affected by a heavy downpour that almost derailed the entire event.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, the organisers pressed on, but the lack of enthusiasm from the participating stylists initially dampened the mood.

However, the atmosphere shifted when the workshop activities commenced. Demonstrations of Braid, Flames Retardant, and Aquatex techniques rekindled interest and drew more attention from the attendees.

As the competition progressed, it gained momentum, with a notable improvement in attendance and energy on Day 2 in Abakpa and an outstanding Day 3 event at the Enugu North Local Government headquarters.

Oghene Ochuko, the national secretary of the competition, acknowledged the challenges but noted that the stylists’ overall performance placed them in the 7th position compared to previous events held across nine other states.

He encouraged stakeholders and stylists in Enugu to raise their standards ahead of the finals, scheduled for October 2024.
