The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has recommended in-demand skills for Aviation Security Personnel (AVSEC) and other aviation professionals in the face of emerging security challenges and threats to air safety.

In a newsletter made available to TW, the association said recent events have shown the enormous value of tracking, assessing and responding to potential security risks and threats in real-time.

To gain knowledge of some of the in-demand skills, IATA recommended the “Insight Platform” for the AVSEC, as it offers users a comprehensive range of timely information, sourced from a wide variety of outlets including niche and local-language news, as well as NOTAMs and other official sources, to do just that.

The association added that the information on the “Insight Platform” can be customized to risk profile and operational needs, by country, city, airport or flight information region.

According to IATA, the Insight Platform can, also, help AVSEC to identify risks, including geopolitical instability, irregular governance, militarized hostilities, terrorism and counterterrorism, international organized crime, pandemics, cybersecurity, civil protests/demonstrations, natural disasters, and supply chain disruptions, among other potential security and safety threats.

“The AVSEC Insight is an online platform containing a comprehensive range of publicly available, timely, open-source information, categorized to help organizations understand their security threat and risks.

“Monitoring multiple sources of information regularly is crucial as the world remains highly volatile and unpredictable. Serious incidents, directly or indirectly impacting the safe, secure continuity of your operations could occur at the local, regional or global level.

“IATA understands the nature and potential severity of these risks and has developed AVSEC Insight to help you manage them,” noted IATA.

The association added that the intuitive interface on the platform is expressly designed to be user-friendly with minimal training.

“Users just log in to access this wealth of information, all of which can be customized to your risk profile and operational needs. Simply select the countries, cities, airports or flight information regions (FIR) that are important to you. Better and faster identification of risk means safer, more secure operations and resource optimization.

“The functionality of AVSEC Insight has been driven by the industry, ensuring an insightful, easy-to-use platform. Moreover, advanced artificial intelligence will ensure the platform becomes more intelligent and robust as the dataset grows,” IATA explained.

Highlighting the benefits of the platform to users, IATA noted that the fragile geopolitical situation makes AVSEC Insight a crucial product for industry security and safety risk management.

“The platform is vital to any organization in the aviation value chain or that manages mobile workforces, time-sensitive movement of assets, and strategic economic viability,” it said.
