The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in partnership with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (FAAN ACTU), conducted an intensive anti-corruption seminar at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan.

This initiative, aimed at addressing and combating corruption within the airport, began with an informative session held at the airport’s Firebay.

The event kicked off with preparatory exercises to engage participants, setting the stage for the main lecture titled “CORRUPTION IS A VIRUS.” The lecture focused on identifying and eradicating corruption within the workplace and the broader environment.

Dr. Mrs. Njideka Nwobu, representing the ICPC in FAAN, delivered an in-depth presentation. Her lecture encompassed the nature and various forms of corruption, the “Seven Deadly Sins” (SDS) associated with corrupt practices, and the social factors that influence corrupt behavior.

Dr. Nwobu provided actionable strategies to eliminate corruption within the workplace, emphasizing the importance of personal and organizational integrity.

A key highlight of the seminar was the session on “INTEGRITY MY WATCHWORD.” Dr. Nwobu dissected the concept of integrity, discussing its definition, significance in professional settings, and the characteristics of individuals who embody true integrity.

She stressed the crucial role integrity plays in both personal and professional life and offered practical steps to enhance integrity within the workplace. These steps were detailed in handbooks distributed to the participants.

To reinforce the principles discussed, attendees were required to undergo a test to ensure they met ICPC standards in anti-corruption knowledge and practices.

Moreover, staff members were encouraged to anonymously submit complaints and challenges they face at the airport through a designated form. These submissions are to be forwarded to ICPC headquarters for thorough review and appropriate action by the management.

The seminar highlighted the ICPC’s unwavering commitment to fostering a corruption-free environment and promoting ethical standards within governmental institutions.

Through initiatives like this, the ICPC aims to enhance transparency and accountability in public service, ensuring a more ethical and efficient operational framework at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport and beyond.
