The Bureau said an investigation team it deployed to the accident site has already commenced inquiries.

The scope of the investigation encompasses a meticulous examination of wreckage from both vessels, interviews with survivors and eyewitnesses, scrutiny of operational protocols for the commercial speedboat, analysis of prevailing weather and environmental conditions, and evaluation of adherence to safety standards governing inland waterway transportation.

The NSIB said collaboration with pertinent authorities, including the Marine Police section of the Anambra State Police Command, maritime authorities, and industry experts, will help its effort to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

The statement, signed by Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NSIB, emphasised the bureau’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
