Kano/Jigawa Area Command Records Remarkable N102.5 Billion Revenue Performance

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded an outstanding performance in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations under the leadership of Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana.

The command announced a total revenue collection of N102,503,573,383.31, reflecting an impressive 94% increase compared to last year’s figures.

This achievement underscores the command’s strategic approach, integrating innovative policies, robust enforcement mechanisms, and technology-driven solutions to strengthen revenue collection.

The heightened focus on border security to combat smuggling and other illicit activities has further reinforced the integrity of the command’s operations.

In addition to these measures, the command has prioritised stakeholder engagement, fostering cooperation with local communities, businesses, and international partners.

These collaborative efforts have not only enhanced compliance but also solidified the command’s vital role in driving economic development and ensuring national security.

In its intensified fight against smuggling, the Kano/Jigawa Area Command recorded significant seizures valued at N235,290,320 in duty-paid value. These include:

Over 136 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each), 238 cartons of spaghetti, macaroni, and couscous.

534 cartons of foreign non-dairy creamer milk, 210kg of kola nuts, and 552 bales of second-hand clothing.

191 blocks of compressed blue cannabis, 74,870 tablets of Tramadol hydrochloride, and 280 blocks of Indian hemp, all handed over to the NDLEA.

5,066 cartons of foreign GIV soap and 58 pieces of used tyres.

1,290 packs of expired or fake pharmaceutical products, along with 750 bottles of Otrivin (15ml each), handed over to NAFDAC.

A total of 4,410kg of pangolin scales intercepted in two operations, including the arrest of a suspect in Mubi, Adamawa State, conducted in collaboration with the Wildlife Justice Commission.

Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana highlighted the importance of the command’s synergy with sister security agencies, terminal operators, licensed agents, and market associations in addressing security challenges and enhancing trade facilitation.

He expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for his unwavering support and lauded the contributions of stakeholders and security agencies to the command’s success.

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command reaffirmed its dedication to its core mandate of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security.
