Keyamo Flags Off Inaugural Flight as United Nigeria Airlines Opens Ekiti Route

United Nigeria Airlines is set to expand its domestic network with the launch of its inaugural commercial flight to Ekiti State on Wednesday, 10 December, with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo (SAN), leading an entourage of dignitaries on the maiden trip from Abuja.

The airline described the development as a significant stride in advancing regional air connectivity and supporting Nigeria’s growing demand for safe and efficient travel across emerging destinations.

The new route will terminate at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Airport in Ado-Ekiti, further strengthening the state’s integration into the national aviation grid.

According to the airline, the service is designed to offer travellers – including residents, business leaders, government officials, students, and tourists – a quicker and more convenient alternative to road travel, while also contributing to Ekiti’s economic transformation.

The airline noted that the presence of the aviation minister on the maiden flight underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to improving air transport accessibility and encouraging airlines to explore new markets with strong economic potential.

UNA highlighted the socio-economic value expected from the new service, stating that enhanced connectivity will help stimulate local commerce, tourism, agriculture, and the state’s growing creative sector. The airline reaffirmed that supporting underserved destinations remains a core part of its strategic growth plan.

In a statement issued ahead of the launch, the airline’s management explained that its decision to commence flights to Ekiti was informed by increased passenger demand and the airline’s intention to strengthen mobility within the South-West region.

The management further reiterated its dedication to maintaining robust safety protocols, delivering quality customer service, and ensuring dependable flight operations across its expanding route network.

“We are delighted to extend United Nigeria Airlines’ signature hospitality and reliable service to Ekiti State. This new route will deepen regional access and unlock fresh opportunities for business, leisure, and socio-economic progress,” the statement read.

The inaugural event on 10 December will attract aviation regulators, government officials, traditional leaders, investors, and industry stakeholders, who will join the airline in marking an important addition to Nigeria’s domestic aviation landscape.

UNA said it looks forward to providing passengers on the Ekiti route with a seamless, comfortable travel experience as it continues its push to broaden air connectivity across the country.
