Keyamo meets Akwa Ibom Governor to discuss Ibom MRO concession
Nigeria’s Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo today, Friday, November 24th, 2023, received the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Uno Udom Bassey Emmanuel, to discuss the concession of Ibom Air’s Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO).
During the meeting, Governor Udom highlighted Ibom Air’s success as a key investment for the state and informed the Minister about the recent acquisition of ten Airbus A220-300 aircraft from the 2021 Dubai Airshow, aiming to enhance the airline’s operations and expand its reach across Africa.
Governor Udom expressed the desire for a collaborative partnership between Akwa Ibom State and the Aviation Ministry, proposing the official concession of Ibom Air’s MRO facility by the federal government.
He said, “This visit is long overdue, there’s a need to brief you officially that we have just taken delivery of brand new aircrafts, ten of them-Airbus A220-300 from the manufacturer, this will further ease airline operations and position Ibom Air for expansion across diverse African destinations.
“So, we are looking at factoring out a symbiotic relationship between Akwa Ibom State and your office as the Aviation Minister, a situation where our aircraft overhaul facility, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) will officially be approved for concessioning by the federal government”.
Following the discussion, the governor extended an invitation to the Honourable Minister to visit Akwa Ibom for an inspection of the MRO facility at his convenience.
Minister Keyamo, in response, commended the state government’s dedication to providing top-notch airline services to the nation.
