Kwara State NASCHO Hair Creativity Competition Ranks Among Nigeria’s Finest

The NASCHO Hair Creativity Competition 2024 final in Kwara State, proudly supported by Kaneka, makers of Kanekalon fibre that is used for X-pression braids, took centre stage at the Tosfol Event Centre, Ilorin, on 25th October.

Featuring a remarkable showcase of hairstyling skill, cultural celebration, and educational sessions, the event attracted a lively audience of 350 attendees, who were captivated by both the artistry and the entertainment on display.

In her opening remarks, Mary Ayeni, President of NASCHO Kwara State, warmly welcomed attendees and extended her gratitude to the event’s sponsors, acknowledging their significant role in supporting Nigeria’s thriving beauty and hairstyling industry.

Nine finalists, each introduced to an enthusiastic crowd, demonstrated their hairstyling prowess in real-time.

Tasked with crafting intricate styles on their models, they competed under the scrutiny of a panel of judges who closely assessed each stylist’s technique, creativity, and overall presentation.

Models adorned with these stunning hair creations accentuated the stylist’s artistry, aiming to secure the coveted top prizes.

Adding to the evening’s value, Miebi, a representative from Kaneka, delivered an insightful presentation on the safety and quality of Kanekalon fibre, highlighting its flame-retardant properties.

A live demonstration followed, showcasing the braiding versatility of the fibres on mannequins, which was both informative and engaging for stylists and attendees alike.

The competition concluded with the announcement of the top three winners: Odeniyi Omotayo claimed the first prize, while Olatoke Kaosarat and Akinwumi Bolanle took second and third places, respectively.

Consolation prizes were also awarded by Mary Sia from Kanekalon, recognising the efforts of other contestants who had displayed exceptional skill during the event.

In a closing address, Afolabi Aduragbemi from the X-pression marketing department advised attendees on the importance of recognising and avoiding imitation products, reassuring stylists that authentic X-pression products are readily available nationwide.

The Kwara State NASCHO Hair Creativity Competition ended on a high note, leaving stylistts and spectators inspired, informed, and eager for next year’s showcase of Nigerian hairstyling talent.
