Lagos Falls Short of Expectations at 2024 NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition
The vibrant city of Lagos recently played host to the second edition of the NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition, marking the end of its first phase with a series of events across three key locations in the state.
Despite the anticipation and excitement that typically accompany such a prestigious event, the outcomes were notably underwhelming, casting a shadow over the city’s reputation in the hairstyling arena.
From the historic shores of Badagry on the 28th to the bustling streets of Orile on the 29th, and finally to the heart of Lagos Island on the 30th, the competition unfolded with great promise. NASHCO, in collaboration with Darling hair extensions, orchestrated these events with the hope of replicating or surpassing the remarkable standards set by their Kano counterparts in previous editions. Unfortunately, the reality fell short of these expectations.
The competition was marked by a disappointing turnout, a stark contrast to last year’s vibrant and enthusiastic participation.
This lacklustre attendance was further compounded by a noticeable decline in stylists enthusiasm, which in turn, affected the overall quality and creativity on display.
The once buzzing arenas were eerily quiet, lacking the fervour that has come to define NASHCO’s events.
However, amidst the general sense of disappointment, a beacon of hope emerged. The founder of NASHCO, Mrs. Elizabeth A. Osinsanya, OON, graced the event with her presence, alongside esteemed patron Mrs. Betty Ishoka. Their arrival breathed new life into the proceedings, as they were met with a warm and enthusiastic welcome.
Stylists and attendees alike erupted into applause, chanting the NASHCO anthem and dancing to the iconic “Sweet Mother” track in their honour. This moment of celebration and recognition provided a much-needed morale boost, reinvigorating the stylists and stylists.
Despite the setbacks, the 2024 NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition in Lagos was a testament to resilience and commitment. Powered by Kanekalon, the renowned Japanese fibre giant, the event reiterated its dedication to fostering creativity and excellence in hairstyling.
Kanekalon’s unwavering support aimed to challenge stylists to elevate their craft, ensuring that their clients leave salons and braiding shops with hairstyles that are not only stylish but also a testament to skill and innovation.
As the competition moves forward, the lessons from Lagos will undoubtedly serve as a catalyst for improvement. The spirit of NASHCO remains unbroken, with a renewed determination to inspire and uplift the hairstyling community, ensuring that future events will not only meet but exceed the high standards expected of them.
