Marwa Commissions NDLEA-NOA Vision Centre, Applauds Landmark Partnership on Eye Care for Staff and Families

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), in a significant boost to staff welfare and morale, has commissioned a state-of-the-art Vision Centre at the Agency’s National Headquarters Annex in Abuja.

The facility, established in collaboration with the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) and its international partner, OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, is designed to offer high-quality, affordable, and comprehensive eye care services to NDLEA personnel, their families, and members of the public.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Marwa expressed profound gratitude to the NOA and its partners for identifying with the NDLEA in this vital health initiative. “We are here with every sense of fulfilment and happiness to commission this Vision Centre,” he remarked, stressing the indispensable role of vision in individual productivity and overall quality of life.

Drawing from his personal experiences with vision care, the NDLEA boss urged officers and staff of the Agency to prioritise regular eye examinations, describing good eyesight as a key factor in professional performance and wellbeing. He further praised the optometrists deployed to the centre for their commitment and pioneering spirit.

“We appreciate you for accepting to serve in this capacity even in uncharted grounds. This Centre is a worthy addition to our several initiatives to promote and cater for the wellbeing of our workforce,” Marwa added.

The President of the Nigerian Optometric Association, Dr Chimeziri Anderson, highlighted the centre’s commissioning as the outcome of a visionary partnership, which was conceived during a strategic meeting held in Lagos. He commended the NDLEA for embracing the initiative and positioning itself as a trailblazer among government institutions.

“This Vision Centre is one of only a few we have established within government institutions. It stands out as a model for sustainable eye care delivery,” Dr Anderson said.

He disclosed that, with backing from partners in France and Dubai, the centre would be equipped with cutting-edge technology to deliver world-class optical services, including premium-quality eyeglasses, to NDLEA staff and their families.

Also speaking at the event, NDLEA’s Director of Medical Services, Dr Audu Okpe, described the launch of the Vision Centre as another milestone in the Agency’s evolving efforts to enhance staff welfare under the stewardship of Brig Gen Marwa.

“It also underscores a broader commitment to fostering public health partnerships between security institutions and professional medical bodies in Nigeria,” he noted.

The commissioning of the NDLEA-NOA Vision Centre marks a forward-thinking approach to workplace wellness, reinforcing the importance of strategic alliances in advancing health infrastructure and boosting employee productivity in the security sector.
