Marwa Supports Borno Flood Victims with N120 Million Fertiliser Donation
In a show of solidarity and support for the victims of the devastating flood that recently hit Maiduguri and its surrounding areas, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has facilitated the donation of N120 million worth of high-yield fertiliser to the Borno State Government.
The donation is aimed at aiding affected farmers in their recovery and preventing famine in the region.
During his visit on Tuesday, 17th September 2024, Marwa, a former Military Governor of the old Borno State, paid a condolence visit to Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, and the Shehu of Borno, His Highness Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanem.
The flood disaster, which claimed numerous lives, displaced hundreds of thousands of residents, and caused significant damage to properties and farmlands, has been described as one of the worst natural disasters in Nigeria’s history.
Marwa expressed deep concern over the magnitude of the disaster, stating that his connection to Borno heightened his empathy for the people’s suffering.
“From my knowledge of Borno State as a former military governor here, I can appreciate the enormity of the devastation of this flood on the lives of the people of Maiduguri, their livelihood, their homes, and even the environment,” he remarked.
He further emphasised the critical need for collective efforts in addressing the impact of the disaster, calling on Nigerians to support the state and federal governments in providing relief.
“The situation on ground demands well-meaning Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the state government to ameliorate the impact of this disaster on the people,” Marwa stated.
To support the immediate recovery efforts, Marwa revealed that he had reached out to a fertiliser company, which responded by donating fertiliser worth N120 million, equivalent to ten trailer loads.
The fertiliser will be distributed to farmers whose farmlands were devastated by the floods, helping them return to their farms and mitigate the risk of famine in the coming months.
Governor Zulum and the Shehu of Borno expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Marwa for his timely intervention and for standing by the people of Borno in their time of need.
The donation is expected to provide a crucial boost to the state’s agricultural sector, which has been severely impacted by the flood, as the government continues to assess both immediate and long-term recovery measures.
