Max Air Boeing 737 Suffers Nose Wheel Collapse at Kano Airport, No Injuries Reported – FAAN

A Max Air Boeing 737 aircraft, bearing registration number 5N-MBD, suffered a nose wheel landing gear collapse and a rear tyre burst while touching down on Runway 06/24 at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on the night of 28 January 2024, at approximately 10:50 local time.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mrs Obiageli Orah, the aircraft was carrying 53 passengers and six crew members at the time of the incident.

The Authority assured that no injuries were recorded among those on board.

FAAN further revealed that emergency response teams swiftly intervened, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew while implementing the airport’s emergency response protocols.

The aircraft was subsequently towed to Bay 5 for further assessment.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the root cause of the landing gear malfunction and tyre burst.

Following an extensive clean-up operation, normal flight activities at the airport resumed at 08:00 hours.
