Med-View Airline explains depressurisation incident
Following the depressurisation incident and alleged deployment of “nonfunctional” oxygen masks on its flight VL2105, which was en route Lagos from Abuja at about 3:10 PM on Tuesday, Med-View Airline has said the crew took necessary steps according to operational procedures.
In a statement made available to TW, the airline explained that “the Captain noticed a warning sign of cabin depressurization while descending from 32000ft altitude.
He quickly briefed the passengers and referred to his checklist to apply the necessary procedure to mitigate the situation.”
The airline added that the oxygen masks dropped for the passengers’ usage were in good working condition, denying allegations from some quarters that the masks were not in good condition.
It explained further, “The Captain called for priority landing because he had been on number 7 on the queue.
He was obliged and he made a safe landing, and the passengers (27) and 6 crew members were calm as it did not pose a serious danger.
The incident was promptly reported to the authority and investigation is on-going.
The situation was professionally handled according to the required operational standard procedures.”
Meanwhile, the Accident Investigation Bureau has commenced an investigation to unravel the cause of the incident and the steps taken by the crew to calm the situation.
In its usual habit, the Bureau has enjoined the press and the general public to help its investigation by providing verifiable facts, but desist from the temptation to discredit the airline by feeding the general public with false information.
