NAHCO’s Indranil Gupta Retires, Olumekun Takes Saddle as Group Managing Director/CEO
The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company PLC (NAHCO aviance) has announced the appointment of Mr Olumuyiwa Olumekun as its new Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (GMD/CEO), effective 1st January 2025.
This announcement marks the end of Mr Indranil Gupta’s tenure, which concludes on 31st December 2024.
In a statement released to the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on 27th December 2024, the Company’s Secretary, Mr Bello Abdullahi, confirmed the Board’s decision.
He stated, “The Board has approved the appointment of Mr Olumuyiwa Olumekun as the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (GMD/CEO) of the Company with effect from 1st January 2025.”
The notice further acknowledged Mr Gupta’s retirement, highlighting his departure from both the executive role and the Board of Directors upon completing his service contract.
Mr Olumekun brings a wealth of experience to the role, with over three decades of leadership across various industries.
Having served as NAHCO’s Group Executive Director of Corporate Services until February 2022, his tenure included stints as Acting Managing Director and Executive Director, Corporate Services.
His strategic guidance during this period was instrumental in implementing NAHCO’s transformative 2019–2023 strategic plan, which significantly boosted the company’s profitability by over 300%.
In 2019, he played a pivotal role in driving NAHCO’s Commercial and Business Development initiatives before transitioning to oversee Corporate Services.
Since his formal retirement in 2022, Mr Olumekun has continued contributing as a Non-Executive Director across NAHCO’s subsidiaries, including NAHCO Free Trade Zone, NAHCO Commodities Limited, NAHCO Travels & Hospitality Limited, and NAHCO Logistics.
A graduate of the University of Ibadan (1985), Mr Olumekun is an alumnus of the Lagos Business School, where he completed both the Chief Executive and Advanced Management Programmes.
Before joining NAHCO, he spent 23 years at Red Star Express PLC (FedEx), retiring as Executive Director in 2015.
During his tenure, he managed the FedEx brand in Nigeria and oversaw vital functions such as Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Customer Service.
Mr Olumekun is a Member of the Institute of Directors and a Registered Professional with the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria.
Beyond his professional accolades, he is committed to his family and is happily married with children.
As Mr Olumekun assumes his new role, stakeholders anticipate continuity and innovation under his leadership.
NAHCO’s Board expressed confidence in his ability to steer the company towards new heights, building on the foundation laid by his predecessor, Mr Gupta.
