NAMA Conducts Factory Assessment Test of Advanced Communication Equipment in Germany to Modernise Nigerian Airspace

…Rhode & Schwarz HF Transceivers Set to Revolutionise Long-Range Air-Ground Communication in Nigeria
In a decisive move towards modernising Nigeria’s airspace infrastructure, a delegation from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), led by its Managing Director, Engr Farouk Ahmed Umar, is currently in Germany for a factory assessment test (FAT) of cutting-edge communication equipment.
The team is conducting the FAT at the renowned Rohde & Schwarz manufacturing facility, where it is evaluating critical High-Frequency (HF) transceivers poised to transform the country’s air-ground communication landscape.
According to a statement signed by Abdullahi Musa, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the visit is being facilitated by Deo Makro Ltd, a Nigerian indigenous contractor partnering with the agency on the project.
The state-of-the-art HF transceivers from Rohde & Schwarz are embedded with sophisticated signal processing algorithms designed to eliminate the high noise levels commonly associated with traditional HF systems.
The adoption of this advanced technology is expected to significantly enhance long-range air-to-ground communication, particularly in areas where conventional Very High Frequency (VHF) systems face limitations.
According to NAMA, the new HF solution will ensure seamless and robust communication coverage over critical zones, including the Gulf of Guinea and the expansive Atlantic Ocean.
It will also address communication challenges in the arid northern regions that stretch beyond the Kano Flight Information Region (FIR), where upper airspace coverage has been a persistent challenge.
Speaking during the visit, Engr Farouk Ahmed Umar expressed confidence in the transformative impact of the equipment. “This move aligns with the commitment of the President towards enhancing the safety of the sector through upgrading and modernising airspace infrastructure,” he stated.
The project marks a significant step in NAMA’s continuous efforts to fortify Nigeria’s aviation communication systems and elevate the nation’s compliance with global air navigation standards.
