The Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, has been honoured with a prestigious fellowship award in recognition of his exceptional leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to ethical governance in public service.

The award, bestowed by Better Nigeria in Practice of Good Conduct—a forum facilitated by Observers Watch and dedicated to promoting ethical standards in both the public and private sectors—was presented during a grand ceremony held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

The event formed part of the commemorations marking the 2025 International Workers Day and drew a distinguished audience that included government functionaries, prominent Nigerians, and members of the general public.

According to a statement signed by Abdullahi Musa, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NAMA, Engr. Farouk was celebrated for his outstanding contributions to the aviation sector, particularly for his transformative leadership at NAMA.

His administration has been credited with modernising Nigeria’s air navigation infrastructure, elevating professional standards, and fostering a culture of service excellence within the agency.

According to the citation delivered by the organisers, “Under his stewardship, NAMA has witnessed significant operational improvements, enhanced safety protocols, and the implementation of cutting-edge air traffic management technologies, all achieved with a strong ethical foundation.”

Upon receiving the award, Engr. Farouk expressed heartfelt appreciation, dedicating the recognition to the dedicated staff of NAMA.

He remarked, “This award is a testament to the fact that integrity still counts in public service. It will inspire us to continue to deliver on our statutory mandate with diligence, transparency, and a deep sense of national duty.”

He further stated that the recognition would serve as a renewed impetus to maintain and strengthen ethical values in the day-to-day operations of the agency.

The Better Nigeria in Practice of Good Conduct fellowship award is conferred annually on distinguished Nigerians who have exemplified good character, demonstrated effective leadership, and shown a steadfast commitment to the ideals of national development.
