NAMA MD Urges General Managers to Drive Innovation, Enhance Productivity in Aviation Sector
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr Ahmed Umar Farouk, has called upon the agency’s general managers to uphold optimal standards in NAMA’s operations, aligning with the practices of leading air navigation service providers (ANSPs) worldwide.
Addressing the 2024 General Managers’ Retreat in Keffi, Nassarawa State, Farouk underscored the need for heightened productivity, streamlined service delivery, and innovative practices to ensure NAMA remains competitive on a global scale.
Speaking through the Director of Air Traffic Services, Mr John Tayo, Engr Farouk emphasised the critical role of general managers in implementing the agency’s strategic vision.
He stated, “The responsibility of advancing NAMA’s mission rests squarely on the shoulders of general managers, who serve as the driving force behind our agency’s aspirations.”
As the essential link between staff and executive leadership, general managers play an influential role in shaping policy and providing feedback essential to the agency’s growth and effectiveness.
In recognition of the pivotal function general managers play, Farouk revealed that NAMA’s leadership is dedicated to creating an enabling work environment bolstered by incentives designed to enhance efficiency.
“We are committed to equipping you with the resources necessary to fulfil your responsibilities seamlessly. I am confident that these incentives will not only motivate you but will also reinforce the stature of your roles, aligning with industry best practices,” he said.
Farouk further encouraged the managers to remain steadfast amid current challenges, asserting his belief in their capacity to tackle emerging demands.
“I trust that, leaving this retreat, you will chart a new course that will elevate NAMA and the aviation sector at large,” he added.
The chairperson of the NAMA General Managers’ Forum, Dr Joy Umeh, also commended the agency’s leadership for its continued efforts to improve working conditions for both general managers and the broader workforce.
“The steps taken by management have substantially enhanced our operations, creating a conducive environment that fosters effective coordination and excellence,” Dr Umeh noted.
She urged her colleagues to harness the benefits of cross-departmental collaboration, synergy, and networking to promote harmony, growth, and progress within the agency.
Themed “Effective Leadership & Resource Management in the Provision of Air Navigation Services in a Depressed Economy,” this year’s retreat gathered NAMA’s top management and featured a series of presentations and panel discussions led by academics and industry experts.
The sessions focused on identifying solutions for NAMA’s operational challenges within Nigeria’s current economic context.
