NAMA seeks collaboration with LAAC ahead of 25th anniversary celebrations

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has called for a partnership with the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) as it gears up to mark its 25th anniversary.

The celebrations, slated for July 21-23, 2024, in Abuja, are aimed at highlighting NAMA’s achievements since its establishment in 1999.

This was disclosed by NAMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Alhaji Abdulahi Musa, during a courtesy visit to LAAC in Lagos over the weekend.

Emphasising the importance of this collaboration, Musa noted that working with aviation journalists would not only help in publicising the event globally but also ensure that stakeholders and the general public are adequately informed before and after the celebrations.

According to him, the anniversary event, themed “NAMA @ 25,” will reflect on the agency’s journey over the past quarter-century and its ongoing commitment to enhancing the safety of air navigation in Nigeria.

“We intend to use this program to showcase several milestones achieved by NAMA, including advancements in Air Traffic Management, and the modernization of navigational and surveillance facilities in line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs),” Musa stated.

Musa highlighted the critical role of aviation journalists in the success of the event, pointing out that their extensive experience in covering the agency’s progress would enrich the discussions and analyses during the anniversary.

LAAC Chairman, Suleiman Idris acknowledged the long-standing relationship between the association and NAMA, stressing the importance of continued collaboration.

He underscored that reporting on NAMA’s programs is vital for enlightening stakeholders and the public.

Idris also addressed some operational challenges faced by LAAC, such as inconsistent power supply at their Lagos secretariat.

A notable moment during the visit was the conferment of the title of Patron of LAAC on NAMA’s Director, Abdulahi Musa, in recognition of his support and contributions.

NAMA, established by Act No. 48 of 1999, is responsible for providing air navigation services across Nigeria, including its territorial waters.

The upcoming anniversary will feature a range of activities including paper presentations, lectures, symposia on NAMA’s future, and awards for aviation stakeholders who have significantly impacted the agency.

The collaboration between NAMA and LAAC promises to enhance the visibility and impact of the anniversary celebrations, further highlighting NAMA’s pivotal role in the aviation sector over the past 25 years.
