NAMA to boost IGR, navigation services

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has begun moves to shore up its revenue base in order to effectively meet its core obligation of air navigation service provision within the Nigerian airspace to stakeholders.

This move, according to the Managing Director of NAMA, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, became imperative owing to the rising commitments of the agency in the area of upgrading navigational infrastructure, enhancing air traffic management services, building staff capacity as well as other personnel costs.

The Captain made these remarks while receiving the report of the Revenue Mobilization Committee set up by the agency early this year.

In a statement issued on Monday, the agency said management would carefully study the report with a view to implementing relevant aspects that would improve its obligations with particular emphasis on IGR.

“An improvement in the revenue profile of the agency would translate to a more robust NAMA, discharging its functions in a more efficient manner,” said Akinkuotu.

To realize this dream, however, the Captain enjoined all staff “to be more prudent and avoid wastages in order to make this dream realizable.”

In the quest to improve its revenue generating capacity, the agency inaugurated the Revenue Mobilization Committee with a mandate to extensively deliberate on the agency’s statutory revenue sources and develop strategies for more effective ways of generation and collection.

In carrying out its responsibility, the committee, which sat between February and April 2018, came up with recommendations, some of which included improvement on the frequency of stakeholder engagement especially on matters relating to service delivery; media enlightenment of customers through various platforms; provision of incentives for prompt payment by customers; improvement on the agency’s e-payment platform, including deployment of Point of Sales (POS) in all its revenue payment points nationwide.

Other recommendations include maintaining constant liaison with the regulator and stakeholders in matters relating to the review of charges.
