NANTA partners IOD on Tourism Affairs

… hosts African travel agents on World Tourism Day

The National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA)has pledged its commitment to the support of the Institute of Directors (IOD), Nigeria on Tourism Affairs.

The partnership was initiated at a closed-door meeting held recently in Lagos, Nigeria, with delegates from the IOD, led by Mr. Biodun Jaji, Chairman for Tourism and Hospitality Committee of the IOD.

Speaking of the IOD’s upcoming conference on October 30, 2019, Mr. Jaji disclosed that the theme of this year’s event is: “Driving Sustainable Tourism through Governance, Policy & Infrastructure.”

Some of the major speakers at the event would be Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture; His Royal Highness, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Oba of Lagos; and Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State.

In commemoration of the World Tourism Day which is celebrated on every 27 September all over the world since 1980, The National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA) has joined the rest of the world in celebrating the memorable event.

In another development that marked the celebration of World Tourism Day, NANTA felicitated with the Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) on its Annual Convention and other travel agents Rwanda and Uganda.

To mark the august event with other African travel agencies in a symbolic manner, NANTA alongside KATA, Rwanda Association of Travel Agents (RATA), Uganda Association of Travel Agents (UATA) and other travel agent associations from East Africa planted a tree in Naivasha, Nairobi, Kenya.

The Chairman of the KATA, Mr. Mohammed Wanyoike in his opening remark called on other African countries and the rest of the world to ensure that tourism is developed and its potentials are fully maximized.

While speaking on the theme of the annual convention which is ‘Travel in Transition: Re-Imagining The Future Of Kenya’s Travel Industry’, he noted that the IATA NewGen ISS would be implemented in Kenya by December 2019 and that is a great way to start boosting travel and tourism.

Mr. Wanyoike noted that Kenya is excited at the introduction of the NewGen ISS and the association looks forward to December when it can be put to use.

He also added that with the presence of Mr. Bankole Bernard, President of NANTA, and other NANTA Executives, there would be room for discussion on the NewGen ISS.

The National Association of Nigerian Travel Agents (NANTA) is the trade association for travel agencies in Nigeria, with membership strength of over 6000 members from the six geo-political zones of the country.

Mr. Bankole Bernard, the Group Managing Director of Finchglow Group is the National President of NANTA.
