NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition Postponed Amidst Nationwide Protests in Nigeria

The NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition has been postponed due to escalating violence linked to protests across Nigeria, with the situation particularly intense outside Lagos.

Kanekalon, the Japanese quality fibre giant and sponsor of the Hair Creativity Competition, has issued an apology to all stakeholders, including stylists, marketers, and distributors in Nigeria.

The competition’s second phase is now rescheduled to begin in September 2024.

On August 1st, Nigerian youths organised nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, expressing grievances against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The protests, while intended to be peaceful, have resulted in injuries, property damage and looting, especially in the northern regions, though state security forces have contained the violence.

Despite the unrest, most states remain calm, with commercial activities proceeding normally. However, some businesses have reduced their exposure due to the volatile environment.

The NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition in partnership with Darling hair which is supposed to conclude the first phase in Ogun this August has been significantly affected by the crises.

The second phase in partnership with X- pression hair is now shifted to September 2024 in Kwara, Kaduna, Enugu, Abia, Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Ogun states.

The competition, which was in partnership with Darling hair began in June 2024 in Ondo, Delta, Anambra, Edo, Kano, and Lagos, showcased excellent hairstyling with models and stylists from each state participating.

So far, participants have shown great dedication to the lecture sessions of flame Retardant and braiding tests. Winners from these events will represent their areas in the finals later this year.

Despite the delay, NASHCO remains committed to empowering small-scale business owners, such as salon and braid shop operators, through its annual Hair Creativity Competition.

This platform continues to foster local talent and attract sponsorships from industry giants like Kanekalon.

The 2024 NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition in partnership with X – pression hair will be supported by Kanekalon, encouraging stylists to enhance their skills for the upcoming phase in September.

The company promises continued support and sponsorship for these events across Nigeria.
