National Single Window to Transform Trade, Strengthen Economy, Says Finance Minister

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, has assured that the forthcoming National Single Window project will significantly boost trade facilitation in Nigeria and further stabilise the nation’s economy.
Edun made this known on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, shortly after presiding over the 63rd quarterly meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Board at the Customs House in Maitama, Abuja.
He explained that the project, scheduled for rollout in the first quarter of 2026, will introduce digital automation, streamline clearance processes, and improve efficiency across Nigeria’s import and export sectors.
“The National Single Window is a legacy project of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It will revolutionise trade by reducing bottlenecks, cutting costs, and speeding up cargo clearance. This combination of digital automation and efficiency will significantly boost our economy,” the Minister said.
Edun disclosed that the NCS had already deployed World Customs Organisation (WCO)-accredited officers, who had contributed to drafting the business process requirements, vendor selection, and ongoing technical support in collaboration with the Trade Modernisation Project Limited.
The National Single Window, launched under President Tinubu’s administration, aims to unify all trade-related government agencies on a single digital platform, harmonise clearance procedures, cut bureaucracy, and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade.
The Minister stressed that the reform complements broader fiscal measures already introduced by the federal government, which are stabilising inflation, strengthening the exchange rate, and improving Nigeria’s trade balance and foreign reserves.

On Customs’ performance, Edun revealed that the Service had collected N3.68 trillion in revenue between January and June 2025. This figure surpassed projections by 11.85 per cent and marked a 25 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
“Revenue for the first six months stood at about N3.7 trillion, which is above target by almost 12 percent and represents a strong improvement over last year. Customs has demonstrated that reforms and technology can significantly enhance revenue mobilisation,” he stated.
The Minister further emphasised that this performance was vital not only to the federal government but also to state and local governments, given Customs’ contributions to the Federation Account.
“The revenue being generated feeds directly into the Federation Account and supports the budget of all tiers of government. With the Single Window initiative fully operational, we expect even greater efficiency and higher returns,” Edun said.
