NCAA introduces Face of Aviation Consumer Protection Initiative, crowns inaugural winner
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched the Face of Aviation Consumer Protection (FACP) initiative to foster creativity, passion, dedication, and excellence within the aviation sector.
This initiative aims to recognise and promote individuals who embody these qualities while serving as advocates for consumer rights within the aviation industry.
The inaugural winner of the Face of Aviation Consumer Protection is Mrs. Ifueko Abdulmalik, an Assistant General Manager of Consumer Protection at the NCAA.
Abdulmalik was crowned during a ceremony marking the launch of the initiative, which was held on Saturday – April 6, 2024.
According to the NCAA, the FACP crown is awarded for a one-year term, with the expectation that a new winner will emerge annually.
This rotation ensures a continual spotlight on individuals who demonstrate outstanding commitment to consumer protection within the aviation sector.
The brainchild behind the FACP initiative is Mr. Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA.
According to Achimugu, the initiative forms part of a broader rebranding effort within the Consumer Protection Department, aimed at enhancing its visibility and effectiveness.
As part of the rebranding exercise, the Consumer Protection Officers (CPOs), who serve as frontline staff interfacing with passengers daily, will now don a new dress code.
The new attire, which includes a sharp crested blue waistcoat, a white shirt, and a hat, aims to ensure easy identification of CPOs at airports nationwide.
Speaking on the significance of the FACP initiative, Mr. Achimugu emphasised its role in promoting diligence, efficiency, and a deep understanding of aviation regulations among CPOs.
He praised Mrs. Ifueko Abdulmalik for her exemplary performance, noting her pivotal role in bridging the gap between the authority and airlines on consumer protection matters.
“She represents diligence and efficiency just like other CPOs and has done her job with candour, has a vast knowledge of the regulations and has been the interface between the authority and the airlines on consumer protection matters.
“Each year, we will crown a new Face of CPD and promote our people. Every year, we must become proud of our jobs and be motivated to improve our productivity to help our dear DGCA succeed. We must support each other and rise” the Director stated.
Looking ahead, Mr. Achimugu urged all stakeholders to rally behind the initiative, stressing the collective responsibility to uphold consumer rights and enhance productivity within the sector.
With Mrs. Ifueko Abdulmalik leading the way as the inaugural winner of the FACP, the initiative sets a precedent for recognising and celebrating excellence in consumer protection in the aviation sector.
