NCAA Takes Consumer Awareness Campaign to Port Harcourt
The Consumer Protection Directorate (CPD) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), in a bid to bolster passenger rights and enhance their travel experience, will be holding a comprehensive end-of-year Consumer Awareness Campaign in Port Harcourt.
The initiative, targeting air travellers, airline operators, and other stakeholders, will unfold over a series of events in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from December 4 to 5, 2024.
The two-day campaign will commence with a Consumer Awareness Roadshow themed “Effective and Efficient Travel Experience Management for Increased Participation and Enhanced Regulation.”
The roadshow, organised by Janvier Technologies Ltd, will begin at 10:00 AM on December 4 at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
Following this, a Town Hall event themed “Repositioning the Nigerian Aviation Industry for Operational Efficiency, Service Excellence, and Economic Viability” will take place at LA Kings Event Centre, 31 Stadium Road, Port Harcourt.
Organised by GPC Limited, the interactive session will provide passengers a platform to share their air travel experiences and engage directly with aviation stakeholders.
Capping the programme will be a high-level conference on December 5 at Osborn La-Palm Royal Resort, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt.
Themed “Enhancing Global Prominence and International Competitiveness of the Nigerian Aviation Sector,” the conference, organised by Pliance Global Aviation, will feature expert presentations on consumer rights as outlined in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (NCAR).
According to the NCAA, recent studies revealed a significant knowledge gap among passengers regarding their rights and obligations.
Many passengers remain unaware that factors such as weather-related flight delays are beyond the control of airlines and airport authorities.
The campaign seeks to bridge this gap through education and stakeholder dialogue.
Captain Chris Ona Najomo, JP, the Acting Director-General of NCAA, underscored the Authority’s commitment to fostering a robust aviation sector that drives economic growth.
He noted that the sensitisation initiative is part of NCAA’s strategic efforts to entrench a culture of service excellence within Nigeria’s civil aviation value chain.
The Town Hall session will feature random interviews and direct feedback from passengers to ensure their voices are heard.
By fostering an inclusive regulatory approach, the NCAA aims to reduce misunderstandings and improve consumer experiences on domestic and international flights.
Experts at the conference will delve into innovative ideas introduced by NCAA’s management to enhance consumer protection.
The discussions are expected to provide a roadmap for achieving a more efficient air transportation system in Nigeria, ultimately aligning the nation’s aviation sector with global best practices.
Through this end-of-year initiative, which started in Lagos last month, the NCAA reaffirms its dedication to empowering passengers, enhancing service delivery, and positioning the Nigerian aviation industry for global competitiveness.
