NCS Concludes Capacity-Building Workshop on New Media, Strategic Communication

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in partnership with Youth Digest, has successfully concluded a three-day hybrid training workshop on New Media and Strategic Communication for its Public Relations personnel.
The workshop, held from 7 to 9 May 2025 at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja, brought together Command Public Relations Officers, reporters, editors, and personnel from the PR Unit for an intensive programme focused on strengthening digital engagement and media innovation within the Service.
Participants benefited from a wide range of interactive sessions covering areas such as house style development, editorial processes, inclusive language, visual storytelling, design principles, and media law. These sessions were facilitated by seasoned professionals in journalism, communication strategy, and digital media.
In his keynote address, Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who was represented by Assistant Comptroller-General Isah Umar, emphasised the critical role of effective communication in driving the Service’s modernisation agenda.
“Today marks a key step in the development of officers charged with promoting the Nigeria Customs Service,” stated ACG Umar. “Capacity building is essential. I urge our younger officers to learn from the expertise of the professionals gathered here.”
Throughout the duration of the workshop, Assistant Comptroller and National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, actively engaged with participants and underscored the importance of lifelong learning.
“This training is vital. Knowledge is endless, and we must seize every opportunity to grow. What we’ve learned here can greatly enhance our professional effectiveness,” he noted. “In the past three days, we’ve shared valuable insights. Let’s apply these lessons to improve both ourselves and the Service.”
The workshop concluded with a formal certificate presentation ceremony to participants, recognising their commitment to professional development and continuous learning in the evolving field of public communication.
