NDLEA Boss, Marwa, Commiserates with Governor Zulum, Shehu of Borno over Devastating Flood Disaster
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Borno State following the devastating flood that has wreaked havoc in the state.
The disaster, which has displaced thousands and caused extensive property damage, has left much of the state’s capital submerged.
In a condolence message addressed to the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, on Wednesday, through the Director, Media & Advocacy
NDLE, Femi Babafemi, Marwa expressed deep sympathy for the governor, the Shehu of Borno, His Highness Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, and the affected residents.
Marwa, a former Military Governor of the old Borno State, conveyed his solidarity with those impacted by the flood, stating, “I would like to assure Governor Zulum, the Shehu of Borno, the victims, and indeed the good people of Borno State that they are not alone in this difficult time.
“Our prayers and sympathies are with them as we continue to hope the floodwaters will recede soon, allowing life to return to normal.”
The NDLEA boss also lauded the efforts of federal and state emergency agencies, non-governmental organisations, and individuals providing relief and rescue operations on the ground.
He expressed his sincere respect for their dedication in assisting affected communities during the crisis.
The flood, caused by the overflowing of Alau Dam following days of torrential rainfall, has submerged nearly 70 percent of Maiduguri, Borno’s capital.
Among the areas severely affected are the Shehu of Borno’s palace, the state secretariat, the post office, Lagos area, Bulabulin, Gwange, the Monday Market, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Kofar Shehu, and several other key locations across the city.
Efforts to mitigate the impact of the flood continue as authorities and humanitarian agencies work tirelessly to provide assistance to displaced residents and restore normalcy in the state.
