NDLEA Cracks Down on Drug Party at Lagos Night Club, Seizes 384.88kg of Cannabis

Agency warns club owners, fun seekers against illegal drug gatherings

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has condemned the rising trend of so-called “drug parties”, describing the practice as a blatant violation of Nigerian law and a threat to public health and security.

The warning follows a major operation carried out by NDLEA operatives at a drug-fuelled party hosted at Proxy Night Club, located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, on the night of Saturday, 25th October, through the early hours of Sunday, 26th October 2025.

During the raid, over 100 partygoers were arrested, alongside the club’s owner, Mr. Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, and the club manager, Mr. Joachin Millary. NDLEA officials also recovered 384.886 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, along with other illicit substances stored within the premises.

According to the Agency, gatherings organised for the consumption, distribution, or abuse of illicit substances constitute “acts of criminality” and will attract severe sanctions.

In a statement issued by Mr. Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, the Agency described the incident at Proxy Night Club as “an audacious display of lawlessness,” noting that organisers even circulated promotional flyers openly inviting fun seekers to attend the drug party.

“Any gathering organised for the purpose of consuming, distributing, or abusing illicit substances is an act of criminality. These ‘drug parties’ contravene the explicit provisions of the NDLEA Act and will be treated as serious narcotic offences,” the statement read.

The Agency further condemned the organisers for what it termed a “flagrant incitement to commit crime,” stressing that such actions mock the country’s law enforcement efforts if left unpunished.

NDLEA disclosed that its operatives had placed the nightclub under surveillance following intelligence reports about the planned drug party.

Undercover agents reportedly infiltrated the venue, conducted pre-purchases of narcotics, and monitored drug transactions inside the club for nearly four hours before the final raid between 11 p.m. on Saturday and 3 a.m. on Sunday.

“Our operatives observed and recorded drug transactions and abuse going on before we eventually disrupted the brazen public display of illegality and made arrests,” the Agency stated.

Following the operation, all attendees were profiled, counselled, and later released in line with international best practices, while Pretty Mike and his manager remain in custody as investigations continue.

NDLEA warned that property owners, event centre managers, and hotel operators who knowingly allow their premises to be used for drug-related activities risk losing such assets to the Federal Government through legal forfeiture.

“While the Agency will intensify surveillance and apply the full force of the law against perpetrators, owners of properties, hotels, and event centres found to be knowingly hosting such illegal activities risk the confiscation and forfeiture of their assets,” the statement warned.

The Agency confirmed that legal proceedings are being initiated against the two principal suspects and that steps will be taken to file for the forfeiture of Proxy Night Club, where the drugs were found.

NDLEA urged Nigerians – particularly parents, religious leaders, and community heads – to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities to help combat what it described as a growing threat to the nation’s youth and moral fabric.

“Nigeria is currently grappling with a very high prevalence rate of drug abuse, particularly among our youths. These illicit drug parties not only fuel the drug scourge but also serve as recruitment hubs for new addicts, undermining our national efforts to safeguard public health and security,” the statement concluded.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to ridding the nation of narcotics and maintaining close collaboration with the public in enforcing Nigeria’s drug laws.
