Engr. Farouk, a seasoned aviation professional with a distinguished three-decade career, officially assumed his role on January 18, succeeding Engr. Tayib Odunowo.
Engr. Farouk’s journey with NAMA began in 2002 when he joined the federal ministry of labour and productivity.
A statement signed by Amaka Walker, General Manager, Public Affairs, NAMA, highlights Farouk’s exceptional engineering expertise and how he has implemented critical systems, including the Instrument Landing System and Doppler Very High-Frequency Omnidirectional Radio Range.
His planned retirement on January 18 marked the end of an era dedicated to advancing the nation’s aviation capabilities.
In assuming the role of Managing Director, Engr. Farouk has prioritised communication and airspace stability.
Notably, he declared a state of emergency on power within the agency, demonstrating a proactive approach aimed at enhancing operational efficiency.
“NAMA is no longer on trial; we are on course, and our commitment to excellence is resolute,” stated Engr. Farouk, stressing the agency’s renewed sense of direction.
Flight safety takes centre stage in his leadership agenda, with a pledge of zero tolerance for air accidents.
Engr. Farouk stressed strict adherence to global safety standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), prioritizing the safety and well-being of the flying public.
Accepting his appointment, Engr. Farouk expressed dedication to maintaining industry-leading safety measures and called for collective responsibility.
According to Farouk, his vision for NAMA is one marked by excellence and safety, seeking guidance for this new phase.
Engr. Farouk extended gratitude to his predecessor, Engr. Tayib Odunowo, for effectively addressing challenges in the airspace.
He committed to continuing the commendable work by his predecessors and emphasised a focus on prioritising the welfare of both active and retired staff at the agency.
With the appointment of Engr. Ahmed Umar Farouk, NAMA appears to have embarked on a new chapter, poised to elevate standards and ensure the seamless functioning of Nigeria’s airspace.
